James Oschman, PhD and Energy Medicine

Last night I went to hear James Oschman, PhD lecture on Energy Medicine and Health at the Mashpee High School. The auditorium was filled with hundreds of people. It was excellent and a lecture that should be heard by traditional medical doctors and nurses so they can better understand some of the adverse outcomes they see in their practices and understand how the interruption of the subtle energy system during surgery, invasive procedures or with medications can cause problems. It further confirmed my work and intent to integrate this into healthcare. Coincidentally, yesterday a group of us met at the hospital to further develop the business plan for an acupuncture clinic at the hospital. The Council on Integrative Medicine is recommending a clinic with not only acupuncture, but chair massage and Reiki as well. On August 13th I start teaching the nurses and physical therapists Reiki Level I - and will continue this year to teach it at NEBH.

After the lecture I went up to James and introduced myself, told him what we were doing and he was happy to hear that and impressed. I then showed him the In My Zone product line to align and harness energy in the subtle system and he was astounded. He works scientifically with equipment to measure the body's response to techniques and their effect on subtle energy. Two words of advise he had, based on research, that the easiest and least expensive ways to strengthen the electrical charges in the body is to be in water (or wash hands after giving treatments) and to stand barefoot on grass and the energies from the earth recharge the system through the kidney acpuncture point. I am hoping I can get him to lecture at the hospital!

3pm-5pm
Getting Better With Age - Michelle Fleming
Duration : 3pm - 5pm
Description : Getting Better With Age or Finding Your Inner Strength with Michelle Fleming "Core strength" is a term that is often thrown around these days and seldom fully understood. In this workshop we will deeply work the muscles of the torso in a synergistic way to take weight off of the joints in the lower back, hips and legs while creating ease in the shoulders and upper back. We will examine closely the anatomy of the bandhas (yogic locks) and applicable chakras as we work to change existing patterns which cause tension and pain and replace them with new patterns that create inner strength and a tension free body. Michelle Fleming found yoga and it saved her life. She stumbled into an astanga class one afternoon and found it was the first thing that made her intense anxiety and depression dissipate. After tearing a ligament in her knee during class, she began to delve deeply in the anatomy behind the poses in an effort to find a safe and effective practice that retained the exhilarating flow she loved so much. These days she trains teachers and students to find a fluid pattern of movement that protects the joints while stretching the muscles and connective tissue and quieting the mind. She is the owner of The Sanctuary of Plymouth and founder of Equilibrium, a non-profit dedicated to bringing breathe, movement and nutrition education to young people with anxiety and mood disorders.
Cost per Ticket : $25

The Science of Yoga and Yoga Therapy Timothy McCall MD.
Date : 2008-09-05
Duration : 5pm - 7pm
Description : The Science of Yoga and Yoga Therapy with Timothy McCall, MD. From raising serotonin to lowering levels of stress hormones, yoga has been documented to have hundreds of discrete effects on the body and mind. Clinical research has found yoga can benefit people with dozens of different medical conditions from anxiety and attention deficit disorder to cancer and heart disease. We'll review the scientific evidence to understand the mechanisms by which yoga and yoga therapy work. In light of the growing ominance of evidence-based medicine, we will also discuss how the deck is stacked against natural remedies like yoga in favor of drug therapy in particular, and how this adversely affects our health care system. We will try out various yogic practices including asana, pranayama, chanting and meditation to illustrate various principles during this workshop. No scientific background is necessary to attend, but if you have got one you are welcome too!

Yoga & the Luminous Body
with Ray Crist!

Master Teacher Ray Crist is Coming to Breathe Joy Yoga......Ray teaches all over the world and we are very excited to host him.

During this workshop, Ray will provide knowledge, information and instruction on how to come into the "effortless equanimity and breath" of each posture, bringing your practice to a new level. We will study foundation, rotations, actions, drishti points, and breath. We will see the geometry of form, and experience the inner movement of prana and apana in our body. This workshop will also give you a clearer understanding of the flow of the body's energy. We will examine what the Yogis call Prana, what Shamans call the luminous sphere, and then we will explore the chakras: what they are, how do they work, how they connect Prana, and ultimately, how do they help us relate to the outside world.

About Ray: Ray H. Crist is a hatha yoga teacher registered through the Yoga Alliance. He has studied shamanism with renowned shaman Alberto Villoldo, holds degrees in Chinese herbology and Thai Yoga Bo Ran (Northern style), and is certified in Reiki. Ray first practiced the martial arts of tai chi and kung-fu. Fluent in Greek, he leads yoga and sailing retreats in the Greek Islands during the summer months. Ray teaches yoga at Kripalu and leads workshops throughout the world. www.yogaandshamanism.com and www.raycrist.com
