Mass Yoga Network - Seeking Volunteers

Greetings!

The MYN Board of Directors would like to thank all current and past members for support of the organization and its mission to bring yoga to the under-served.
Over the last 5 years we have provided 25 $500 grants ($12,500!) to teachers in collaboration with community groups reaching those who may lack access due to poverty, physical or mental illness, chronic conditions, recovery from addiction or violence, or isolation. The two most recent grants are described below.
After much discussion, the current Board of Directors has concluded that the organization needs and deserves much more time than what we can put into it.
We believe in the mission of MYN to bring yoga to the under-served, and that there is a huge potential for the organization to thrive and grow. However, there is much that needs to be done and, after many discussions, we have concluded that new blood is needed to take the organization into the future.
We are a volunteer-run organization seeking a motivated individual or a group of enthusiastic yogis and philanthropic supporters who would like to take over the organization. We have funds to carry the organization through the next few months, including a small stipend for somebody who might wish to step up to the plate (or off the mat and into the community).
We seek people who have the time, commitment and passion to lead MYN in the following endeavors:
Support and communicate with current members
Establish programs (incentives, incl. updating benefit partners) to increase membership
Manage financial responsibilities such as bill-payment and filing necessary paperwork with the state and federal government
Take MYN into social networks (facebook, twitter) to broaden our reach
Write grant proposals (to sustain grants for teachers in underserved areas)
Review and manage grant requests and awards.
Manage the Web site `
Explore creative ways to raise $ to support grant giving.
The current board members are willing to spend time to "pass the torch" to committed individuals.

Our deadline for filling Board Member seats is Dec 31. If you are interested, please contact info@massyoga.org with the Subject Line: Board Member. We look forward to the transition and transformation of MYN.

Tai Chi Exercise Reduces Knee Osteoarthritis Pain In The Elderly, Research Shows

Researchers from Tufts University School of Medicine have determined that patients over 65 years of age with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who engage in regular Tai Chi exercise improve physical function and experience less pain. Tai Chi (Chuan) is a traditional style of Chinese martial arts that features slow, rhythmic movements to induce mental relaxation and enhance balance, strength, flexibility, and self-efficacy.
